Science, Policy, and Public Education on Population and the Environment

The Center for Environment and Population (CEP) is an independent, non-partisan, non-profit research, policy and public outreach organization that addresses the relationship between human population, resource consumption, and the environment. 

Through groundbreaking publications and a range of activities, the Center strengthens the scientific basis of policies and public outreach, to achieve a long-term sustainable balance between people and the natural environment. 

CEP partners with leading experts and organizations to link science, to policy, and public outreach to better understand and address the issues.  To do this, CEP undertakes a series of activities to:

• Compile, assess, and advance current knowledge and emerging trends on population and the environment;

• Produce balanced, easy-to-understand research-based resource materials and tools for policy makers, the media, and the public;

• Conduct activities to integrate the information into policies and public outreach, and;

• Create new leadership on the issues.

CEP uniquely focuses on the U.S. population's environmental and climate change impacts, both in the nation, from the local community to national level, and within the global context.
